Roots & Shoots – Kansas City Urban Agriculture & Environmental Stewards
Roots & Shoots empowers young people to become the next generation of urban agriculture leaders and environmental stewards. Through hands-on garden education, pollinator habitat projects, seed stewardship, and community-based learning, youth gain practical skills while developing a deeper connection to nature, food systems, and neighborhood resilience. The program reflects the spirit of R.O.O.T.S. – Raising Our Own Thriving Stewards and S.H.O.O.T.S. – Students Helping Our Outdoor Traditions Survive, encouraging young leaders to learn, grow, and share their knowledge within their communities.

Ancestral Roots Seed House

Ancestral Roots Seed House focuses on preserving and sharing culturally affirming crops, heritage seeds, and plants that connect communities to food traditions and the natural landscape. The initiative grows and offers seeds, plant starts, and culturally significant vegetables and herbs for community gardens and home growers. It also features native and edible native plants that support pollinators and local ecosystems, along with seasonal offerings such as edible bouquets and specialty plant selections that celebrate the beauty, diversity, and cultural heritage of food plants.
